Following our participation in Hong Kong Nature-based Solutions Week 2026, we are pleased to share the presentation slides from our session, Market-based and Blended Finance for NbS: Opportunities in the Northern Metropolis, BSAP and the Greater Bay Area. The presentation explores how nature-based solutions can be financed at scale by positioning ecosystems not solely as conservation assets, but as critical infrastructure that delivers measurable climate adaptation, resilience, and economic benefits.
Drawing on opportunities emerging in Hong Kong’s Northern Metropolis, the presentation examines three potential financing pathways: insurance-linked resilience financing, developer-led investment in nature-based solutions, and sustainable aquaculture models that integrate ecological restoration with economic activity. It also highlights the importance of measurement frameworks, regulatory incentives, project structures, and stakeholder coordination in attracting private capital to wetland conservation and restoration efforts.
The presentation further explores the role of wetlands in reducing flood risk and illustrates how avoided losses can help build the investment case for nature-based solutions. Through examples such as Gei-Wai wetland systems and landscape-scale approaches to resilience, it examines how environmental outcomes can be linked to financial value and long-term investment strategies.
We hope the presentation provides useful insights for policymakers, developers, insurers, investors, financial institutions, conservation organizations, and practitioners interested in advancing innovative approaches to financing nature-based solutions in Hong Kong and across the Greater Bay Area.
